Calorie-free sauce … maybe real?
I’m trying to lose weight. I’ve already lost over 50 kg (See my other blog.)
Obviously, good-tasting food with fewer calories makes that easier. Today I decided to find a lower-calorie spaghetti sauce.
Here’s one from Walden farms.
All three of their pasta sauces have zero calories and zero grams of fat according to their nutritional labels. Let’s look at the Tomato and Basil sauce. Nutrition information is here. The ingredients include as the second ingredient “tomato”. The serving is 1/4 cup. According to CalorieKing.com, 1/4 cup of chopped tomato would be 8 calories. Of course, since it’s the second ingredient and everything after the first two would be nearly weightless (spices and such), there can’t be more than just under 1/8 cup of tomato. If it’s 1/16 cup, that would be 1/2 calorie, which FDA would let them list as zero. Wow, it might be real! (The sauce is probably pretty watery, though, since it’s by definition mostly water.)
Hmm … I’m a skeptic, but this claim might actually be correct despite seeming implausible on first glance. I don’t suppose anyone out there has experience with Walden Farms brand products?
